Clothes That Work's Success Stories

CFC CTW client transformation

For more than 20 years Clothes That Work has collected thousands of success stories as we help transform job seekers into successful employees. To date, more than 30,000 women, men and independent teens have been empowered at Clothes That Work whether its dressing jobseekers for an interview, coaching them with helpful interview tips, or training them with the latest professional soft skills in the workplace.
Our mission to clothe, educate and empower jobseekers to achieve employment success has stayed true since our doors opened in 1998. Our vision is to be viewed as the leading workforce development resource for improving the professional image and lives of our clients. Our clothing and coaching program is our signature program, and where so many of our stories of success begin.
Clients who are transitioning from public assistance to employment come to Clothes That Work through referral partners and receive a complete outfit free of charge to help them make a positive first impression during their job interview. Clothes That Work has a network of more than 40 referral partner agencies who pay a small fee to refer clients to us on an annual basis. We partner with agencies like CareSource, Catholic Social Services, and Montgomery County Jobs and Family Services to name a few. We also rely on the generosity of our community to donate their gently used professional clothing and accessories so we can help our clients look their best for their interviews.
Clients work one-on-one with a client coach to help them not only look their very best, but to also be well prepared for their interview with tips and advice. If the client is hired for a new job, they can return to Clothes That Work and receive a week’s worth of clothing so they can start their new job with a complete professional wardrobe.
Some client testimonials include:
“I have been out of work for over two years and did not have the money to dress professionally for my job interviews. Clothes That Work helped me communicate my work ethic and professionalism. Now, I am employed as a home health aid and able to provide for my family.”
“I was a homeless teenager with a dream and no idea how to make it come true. After receiving clothing from CTW I found a job in retail, found a place to live and hope to enroll in Sinclair Community College this fall. Clothes That Work was a new beginning for me.”
“Like many military veterans today, I had a challenging time with the transition from soldier to civilian. I am living in the Homeless Veterans Program. Seeing myself dressed like this reminds me of my old self and gives me hope.”
“I am a 33-year-old mother of 3. I want my 15-year-old daughter to go to college. Seeing me in my new suit is such a good example for her to set her goals high. This suit will not only help me find a job, but will help my kids see how they should dress.”
“I am going for my GED but seeing myself in this suit, I think I can do more.”
“I was a single mom on welfare. After receiving clothing from Clothes That Work, I found a job and was able to lift myself and my child out of poverty.”
It is hard to be self-assured and attentive in a job interview when you aren’t sure if you’re dressed appropriately. Clothes That Work removes those professional image barriers and helps build our client’s confidence. Unemployment is at an all-time high since the COVID-19 crisis began. Dayton unemployment numbers jumped from 4.6% in March to 15.9% in April. That equates 18,000 unemployed in March to 62,400 unemployed in April. Our services are needed now more than ever for the economic recovery of the Dayton region. Clients who come to Clothes That Work receive the best of the best so they leave our office feeling empowered and ready to nail their interview.
Clothes That Work’s clients walk out the door feeling taller and prouder after receiving a suit. Please join us in our mission to clothe, educate and empower individuals to prepare them for employment success. Thank you for your consideration of Clothes That Work.
