CRC Delivers Necessity Bags to Neighbors in Need

Necessity Bag Delivery

Since 1971, the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center (CRC) has been making a positive impact in the lives of our neighbors. CRC operates a Food Pantry that distributes over two tons of food daily, an affordable summer and after-school elementary program, Kinship Care, and a Senior Services Program that serves over 500 older adults.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, CRC’s Food Pantry has been serving ALL 44 zip codes in Franklin County. Meals and groceries are being delivered to local older adults. The Crisis Phone Line is also facilitating assistance for those facing the reality of food scarcity, possible eviction, financial crisis and more. Our Kids Club program is also facilitating e-learning and class zoom calls while in a safe and nurturing environment.

On March 18th, CRC partnered with Age Friendly Columbus and Franklin County to launch a Necessity Bag program for older adults in Franklin County in Response to the COVID-19 crisis. With funding from Columbus City Council and The Franklin County Office on Aging, CRC is able to provide food, toiletries, educational material, face masks, and other pandemic supplies to isolated older adults for 26 consecutive weeks.

CRC volunteers and staff hauled 67,222 pounds of food, packed and delivered 4,641 bags to older adult doorsteps across 44 zip codes in Franklin County. Volunteer receptionists answered calls for sign ups and staff updated routes to ensure deliveries at least once a week. After each delivery date, thank you calls and notes rolled in. Recipients were not only grateful for the items in the bag, but for the sense of connection the bags helped generate. Many of those who called to thank CRC expressed how wonderful it felt to be thought of.
